“Becoming a Fully Devoted Follower of Christ”
We’re going to make an assumption here. We’re going to assume that you want to know Jesus more. We’re going to assume that you want to dedicate your life to Him, to find what it means to give Him total obedience. We’re going to assume you want to have a personal relationship with Him, an ever growing and ever deepening encounter with God. You may want those things, but you may not know how to get them. You may not know where to begin. Or maybe you are quite a ways on your spiritual journey and you are looking for the next step.
We want to help.
Part of what Risen Christ is all about is to bring people to the place where they can be fully devoted followers of Christ. It is part of our vision statement;
We of Risen Christ Lutheran Church commit ourselves to:
** Reach out to our community with God's love,
** To provide a home for all, with a Christ-centered, family-enriching emphasis,
** In order to develop and equip fully devoted followers of Christ.
In order to help you become a fully devoted follower, we have adopted from Saddleback Community Church in California, 4 steps or bases that you might move through in your walk with the Lord. These 4 bases are:
Commitment Membership
A Commitment to Maturity
A Commitment to Ministry
A Commitment to Missions.
We offer these classes each year. They are meant to be sequential and will equip you with the tools you need to progress in your spiritual walk with Jesus. We want to help you become a “fully devoted follower of Christ.”
Which Base Should You Take???
Base 1: “A Commitment to Membership”
Purpose: This course is for all who are not currently members of Risen Christ.
Content: An introduction the vision, values, beliefs and structure of Risen Christ. You will be asked to commit to protecting the unity, sharing the responsibility, serving the ministry and supporting the testimony of the church.
You should take this seminar if. . .
- You are not a member of Risen Christ
- You wish to find out more about this congregation
Base 2: “A Commitment to Maturity”
Purpose: Just as getting into good physical shape takes discipline, so getting into good spiritual shape also takes discipline. This course will help you grow strong in the Lord.
Content: A growing disciple needs to be involved in four basic habits; time with God’s Word, prayer, tithing, and the habit of fellowship. You will learn about these habits and gain some practical suggestions on how to get started. You will make a commitment to a daily time with God, a weekly tithe and to a Care Group for mutual encouragement and support.
You should take this seminar if. . .
- You do not have a regular Bible reading program.
- You want to learn how to pray
- You yearn to know Jesus better
Base 3: “A Commitment to Ministry”
Purpose: As a disciple grows, you are ready to be engaged in ministry, to use the gifts God has given you. The purpose of this course is to help you understand what those gifts are and also how God has SHAPEed you for ministry.
Content: A discussion of the 5 factors that God has used to SHAPE you into the person He wants you to be so that you can be used in ministry; Spiritual Gifts, Hearts, Abilities, Personalities, and Experiences. You will take an inventory each week to help you understand how God has molded you to do His ministry.
You should take this seminar if. . .
- You want to make a difference for the Lord
- You don’t know how you can help
- You want to learn more about how God has made you.
Base 4: “A Commitment to Missions”
Purpose: To discern God’s mission to the world and how you are a part of that mission.
Content: God has a mission for each disciple to perform. That mission is to make disciples. You will learn about God’s world-wide mission to the lost, how you can be a part of that and how you can be used by God to lead someone to Christ.
You should take this seminar if. . .
- You want to get in on what God is doing world wide
- You don’t know how to share your faith with someone else
- You want to be prepared for an oversees mission trip.
